I'm using protein polymers engineered in our lab to create synthetic RNA-protein condensates that can control different aspects of cellular function using liquid-liquid phase separation. I successfully genetically engineered highly conductive protein filaments which can be used as protein nanowires. In their native form, these filaments made by E. coli are not conductive. I used synthetic biology methods to incorporate mutations into the proteins to make them conductive. Furthermore, I attached gold nanoparticles onto the mutant filaments.

As an undergraduate in the Isaacs lab, I worked on optimizing and analyzing a gene editing technology, Multiplex Automated Genome Engineering (MAGE), developed in the lab.
