Hi! I’m Daniel Nester (danielnester.com). I’m a writer, editor, educator, poet, and Queen fan. I’m a couple of other things, too, but we’ll start with those.I am a seasoned writer, editor, and digital content specialist with a knack for crafting compelling stories. I am an experienced copy editor who knows their AP and AMA, and knows how to develop on and work with client- and brand-specific style guides.As a freelance medical reporter and technical writer, I’ve crafted clear, reader-friendly content and stories from technical subject matter. My bylines have appeared in national outlets like The Atlantic, New York Times, and BuzzFeed. My extensive education background comes primarily as a professor at The College of Saint Rose. My work in the classroom earned the highest marks, and I was promoted from assistant to associate and full professor. I have also taught in non-traditional settings such as hospitals, needle exchanges, prisons, and with adults with developmental disabilities. As an eLearning specialist, I am well-versed in adult learning theories and matching learning goals and objectives with activities and assignments. I transformed my department’s marketing and publicity strategies, leveraging my expertise in web design and social media. Interest in our programs increased as a result. I also created a literary culture on campus. For over ten years, I coordinated Frequency North, a reading series with 60-plus on-campus events that featured guest authors with an average 50-plus attendance. I founded Pine Hills Review (pinehillsreview.com), an online literary journal that thrives to this day.Currently, I work at the New York State Teachers' Retirement System (NYSTRS) as a Public Information Specialist 1. As part of their Communications & Outreach department, I write and edit newsletter articles, bulletins, handouts, reports, and other materials for one of the top public pension funds in the country. After spending the first part of my career preparing so many of my college students for their teaching careers, it is a thrill to spend the next part of my career helping those same teachers prepare for their well-deserved retirement.So that's my story.
