I have always had dual passions: one of music, and one of working with computer technology. As a young adult, while I would rehearse and perform with choirs and orchestras, I would also learn everything I could about computers and IT, making house calls to help people troubleshoot their technical problems, and learning everything I could from those who knew more than I.In college, I studied music education, while working at the help desk, assisting students, professors, and members of the community in person and over the phone, and continuing to learn what I could from my mostly computer science major coworkers, from the technical ins and outs of TCP/IP, to the most efficient way of navigating an end user through the command prompt over the phone.While working as a high school music teacher, I was happy to give students the kinds of positive experiences I'd had in school, helping them to develop, not just as music students, but as members of society. In that role, I was responsible for creating and implementing curriculum, planning and executing performances, and having the vision to lead students of all abilities and personalities toward a common goal. While that was a fulfilling career, after years of teaching the same classes, my interest in it began to stagnate, and I began to feel the pull toward science and technology, and decided to pursue a career shift toward coding.Now that I am growing my coding skills, I have discovered how much I love the whole process of learning to code. From the challenge of developing new skills, the frustration and then the satisfaction of wrapping my head around getting functionality to work and increasing my understanding of the underlying logic behind the code, to the fun of collaborating with my classmates on group projects, I am excited to soon join a team of other developers to continue to learn new techniques and create more and exciting new projects in my future career as a developer.
