I am a people-first quant, who helps busy investors deploy math aligned with their objectives and strengths to make their lives easier. I believe that the application of math is deeply personal and is more effective when developed and enhanced in partnership with investors on the basis of a consistent feedback loop. Well designed quantitative feedback loops are both internal and external, helping investment teams build trust in their process (tightening the connection between expectations, process and performance) as well as providing constituencies and clients with rigorous trusted context for performance and insights about positioning, to support patience with volatile performance in increasingly volatile markets.* * *While I started my career with a love of math, I found people to be more interesting, especially their varied experiences with, and views of, math. I help investors assess where and whether math can be deployed to improve dimensions of their investment processes, communication and bandwidth.In my experience, adapting investment processes to incorporate more math requires an earnest ambition to improve and the courage to acknowledge discomfort. There can be low hanging fruit, but more often much of process improvement is about curating and prototyping reasonable experiments, that build a team's awareness and understanding. Over time, any given math treatment must earn its place in the investment process through it's relevance, materiality and valuable improvement of the existing process. For math to help, the investor must also earn their stripes by developing understanding, remaining skeptical, improving their ability to interpret and synthesize the implications and ultimately the confidence to apply insights and communicate with stakeholders the evolution of the process.
