- Litigated all aspects of commercial disputes, including drafting dispositive motions, preparing discovery requests, taking depositions, negotiating settlements, examining and cross-examining witnesses, drafting post-trial briefs and proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law, and seeking appellate review.- Led internal investigations and defense of multi-national corporations accused of civil and criminal wrongdoing.- Counseled and defended individuals in connection with government investigations, including inquiries conducted by the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), other federal agencies, and state attorneys general.- Advised corporations concerning data security breaches.- Represented pro bono clients defrauded by immigration consultants, or “notarios.”Selected Representations:- Defended former U.S. District Court Judge G. Thomas Porteous, Jr. (E.D. La.) in his impeachment trial before the U.S. Senate. All state cases were removed to federal court, all preliminary relief was denied or dismissed, and all of the cases were either sent to binding contractual arbitration, dismissed with prejudice, or otherwise favorably resolved.- Helped advise and defend employees of a large financial institution in connection with investigations conducted by the SEC and New York Attorney General’s Office into business activities related to sub-prime lending, residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), and various structured financial products, including collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and credit default swaps (CDSs).

Practiced in the areas of complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy, including:- Drafted the argument section of a successful summary judgment motion opposing a $17M breach of fiduciary duty and unfair competition suit;- Obtained relief from an automatic bankruptcy stay and liquidated $650,000 worth of collateral in a private UCC sale;- Conducted depositions of fact witnesses and debtors; and- Examined a witness and argued points of law at an evidentiary hearing.

Supported Senate staff attorneys in evaluating and responding to a variety of policy issues, including the NSA domestic spying program, the Whirlpool and Maytag merger, patent legislation, and oil industry consolidation and rising gas prices.

Drafted legal memoranda concerning a variety of substantive and procedural legal issues, prepared discovery requests, and second-chaired a small claims court trial win.
