Information Technology Support Analyst
As an IT Support Analyst at ReSource Pro, I provided support for onsite and remote users, including troubleshooting, desktop maintenance, new employee setup, and hardware procurement. When necessary, I supported the China technology team in communicating and troubleshooting with U.S. ReSource Pro clients.I also supported local and global technology projects aimed at improving employee efficiency & effectiveness, collaboration with remote offices, and information security by evaluating and implementing technologies.I supported the deployment, maintenance, and administration of all ReSource Pro U.S. team applications, in addition to managing all U.S. helpdesk ticketing. Additionally, I supported ReSource Pro's real-time teams in China and India with network-related issues such as BGP line switching, routing, and prioritization. Lastly, my responsibilities included initiatives to educate and encourage increased utilization of the various tools at our end-users' disposal. Essentially, these initiatives provided support to our U.S. team on how to better use existing technology services. My role allowed me to help our staff build trusted-partner relationships with clients and colleagues through the use of reliable technology and support. I also had the opportunity to develop and build business acumen and stay aware of industry trends through constant communication with a valuable network of support, both locally and abroad.
Point Of Sale Support
My position at Nebraska Book Company (NBC) expanded my IT skills to include work in SQL, cloud computing, and mobile app development. As a technician on the Point of Sale team, I was responsible for troubleshooting point of sale software, hardware, network, and firewall issues. Approximately 25% of the role required travel to any of our several clients within the U.S. and Canada. The purpose for my travel would be for initial set up or upgrades of NBC point of sale systems and to train staff on using our system. While there, I would set up equipment and configure all software and peripheral devices such as printers, bar scanners, and mobile registers. Once the store setup and training was complete, I would continue to support the client with any subsequent issues or questions. Support after initial setup included configuring and troubleshooting cloud-based mobile devices used for sales and inventory control, assisting store managers with reports regarding accounting, inventory, and web orders, remotely configuring systems for credit card processing, cash register-to-server network connections, and cloud-based sales processing. Lastly, I would work with assigned regional sales rep to mitigate store matters and build client rapport. Nebraska Book Company exposed me to several facets of computing in which I had no previous experience. The travel gave me a sense of independence and helped me develop tools to work with autonomy. It was especially beneficial travelling to client locations and building relationships with the staff at each store. This aspect gave support a more personal approach which helped establish goodwill with those we serviced.
Service Desk Analyst
Dell was my first step into the IT field. Although the position was very much entry-level, I gained immense knowledge and skill from the thorough training I received. Dell used its massive IT infrastructure and capital resources to build a new service center in Lincoln. The growth was fast, and so they needed bodies to fill seats and start training as quickly as possible. An old connection from Perot alerted me of the open position, so I decided to apply, even though I felt unqualified. To my surprise, I was hired and began work right away. Essentially, my role was to provide technical support to client desktops and laptops. This was done remotely via phone, email, and other remote tools. Dell serviced several clients, so the work done would vary, depending on the team I was on at the time. Mostly, my responsibilities involved troubleshooting password resets, printer setup, account specific client applications, and basic diagnosing of desktop and laptop software problems. When I would come across a problem out of my scope, I would escalate the issue to other internal Dell groups such as desktop support, network & server support, and messaging support. As Dell Services grew, so did their need to standardize procedures and track data. Creating and updating the knowledgebase was an essential part of my daily responsibilities. Every team was unique and required a different skillset. Having an updated and accurate knowledgebase was our most useful tool when training new employees. Lastly, I ran daily statistical data reports. These reports helped keep track of progress and areas of opportunity on the individual and group level. My time at Dell granted me a wealth of skills I still utilize today. Although most of my training involved technical knowledge, I also developed skills in time-management, interdepartmental communication, and leadership.
Team Lead/Quality Assurance Representative
My career at Perot Systems began as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) in the New Business department. As a CSR, I supported policy holders, agents, brokers, and MGA's with questions or problems regarding their life insurance policies and annuities. Additionally, I was responsible for creating proposals and illustrations to forecast policy performance in future years. These materials were used by producers to show clients financial projections of their policies. Within a few months, I accepted a position within the Commissions, Contracting & Licensing (CCL) department. In CCL, I worked more closely with the producers and their MGA's. I was able to help producers with a more personal approach, and in turn, created a better service environment. I also became more familiar with the commission payment schedules and licensing requirements for each state where our client did business. Shortly after, I was promoted to Team Leader/ Quality Assurance representative within CCL. My new role required me to regularly monitor phone calls, provide individual coaching sessions, and assist phone representatives with questions regarding systems, policy, and exceptions. I would also take part in calibration meetings with other departments to ensure fair and consistent grading of the representatives' phone calls. I worked closely with the department supervisor and leadership within our home office to ensure we had up to date training materials. Lastly, I utilized database management to track call and quality assurance statistics for the purpose of measuring improvement. My experience at Perot Systems provided me with a thorough understanding of the life insurance and annuity industry, from both policyholder and producer perspectives. I had the opportunity to collaborate with other departments and enhance my intercommunication skills. I was also able to gain valuable leadership experience which has served me in all my subsequent positions.
