Network Architect
Manager, I.S. Security Engineer
Systems Analyst
Ah, the title of Systems Analyst. It's probably the least descriptive job title there is, but I absolutely love it, and here's why:The team I work with in Network Operations does more with less people than should be possible, and I can only attribute that to our open team environment. From the network team and firewall admins, the server guys and security gurus, we all work in an open environment with fluid collaboration. It truly is "one team, one fight."When I moved up from Field Support, I started in Ops as a network jock rolling out switch configs and upgrades at over 70 sites. I got hands-on experience with static routes, OSPF, VLAN tagging, network planning for varying subnet sizes, switch stacking, troubleshooting and more. I worked quickly to make myself an invaluable asset to the team and am now the #2 network admin behind our Network Architect. I'm a firm believer that you should never stop learning. I wanted to branch further into network security, so I teamed up with our firewall and content filter gurus to learn all I could. I got certified in our iboss SWG and began learning about our Sonicwalls. I received approval to take ownership of the firewalls and in less than 6 months I cleaned up more than half of the 500+ access rules that were depricated, nearly 600 unused address objects, and dropped the number of NAT policies from 119 to 78, and it's still a work in progress. I've taken PMP certification training, AlienVault USM training, Aerohive Wireless ACWA, and CompTIA Security+. I'm working directly with our ISO to get deeper analytics into our firewall and server logs for incident response, assisting in the management and rollout of district-wide wireless infrastructure upgrades, helping save hundreds of thousands of dollars through the Federal E-rate program, and looking forward to leading the initiative as we evaluate various NAC solutions. Ah, the life of a Systems Analyst. What could be better!
Pc Field Service Technician
Provided support for School Board equipment consisting of personal computers, peripherals, and other related equipment. I performed the duties of the primary network specialist 8 schools in the Oviedo area. I would manage Kace workload, server shares, shared printers, active directory, group policies, software installations, and network troubleshooting, as well as PC hardware troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance. In addition to my standard duties, I created a script to automate the process of setting up all user folders in OneDrive allowing users to have cloud storage backup and at-home access to the files they use every day. I also pioneered the use of a single shortcuts folder for school-wide applications. This significantly reduced the number of group polices needed to create shortcuts and made updates or fixes instantaneous across the school campus for all users. I also developed a “Multi-Machine Uber-Script” that allows IS personnel to run a selection of various commands on multiple machines simultaneously, significantly reducing the time to run common tasks such as group policy updates, manual Kace software inventories, and remote re-imaging on a large scale.
C-130 Flight Mechanic / Shop Supervisor
As a Marine, you are trained and conditioned to think clearly under high stress conditions. You are required to achieve and sustain a high level of both physical standards and personal professionalism both on and off duty. You are trained to be the best at what you do and that the only acceptable outcome is mission accomplishment. My core job required me to have knowledge of the inter-relation of all aircraft systems including power plants, air frames, hydraulics, fuel system, pressurization, avionics, etc., and ground and in-flight emergency procedures. In addition to the standard duties above, I was the lead Tool Control Program Representative for my section making me directly responsible for over 1100 tools on all the aircraft and in the maintenance shop. Under my supervision the tool control program had zero discrepancies found during program inspections.I was the shop supervisor during day shift requiring me to manage personnel to achieve the daily maintenance requirements given from upper management on aircraft worth over $700M. I was also in charge of scheduling flights for roughly 60 aircrew personnel to help meet both their personal training requirements and to maintain the overall mission readiness of the squadron.
Senior Cad Designer
As the Senior Cad Designer, I used AutoDesk software to design and lay out complete construction documents from the lead architect's initial design sketches. I coordinated with consultants' design teams and the project architect to ensure conformity to design changes as well as provided technical support to design personnel. I also formulated CAD standards and templates for current and future projects, which included fire stations, schools, churches, business centers, public works facilities, and media centers. Working for SRI, I learned about the entire life cycle of a building from first conceptualizations to finishing construction. I also had the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of highly skilled professionals before becoming a United States Marine.
Laser/Router Operator
Bob Violett Models is an amazing company based in Winter Springs, FL. They design and manufacture some of the worlds best radio controlled model aircraft. I started working there over the summers during my high school years and started working there full time after graduating. I first started working in their shipping department, where I would ensure that customer orders for new and replacement parts were filled and ready to ship the same day. I later moved to their machine shop where I had the opportunity to learn to manufacture the metal parts for the model aircraft, such as the wheels, landing gear, struts, and air cylinders. Before long, I had taken over the position of laser/router operator, where I would run the CNC machines used to cut the carbon fiber and wood parts for the aircraft. It was amazing to see the parts that I made go into a model jet with a six foot wingspan and fly over 200mph with perfect precision! I'll never forget the opportunity they gave me there before my college studies in architectural design led me to Starmer Ranaldi.
