All Weather Windows is prototyping and testing smarter, more efficient windows and doors. I was involved with:1. Developing an existing prototype of an automatic, motorized window for production. There were two aspects to this project. Firstly, we designed and rapidly prototyped new features such as a break-away mechanism to protect the motor. Secondly, we optimized existing features for mass production.2. Designing and constructing a thermal test chamber to assess products' performances in realistic conditions. This included building a mounting system for full-size samples, up to and including double-doors. We also implemented instrumentation for logging temperature, pressure, and humidity.3. Testing techniques to deposit nano-scale coatings on glass that can be used to incorporate solar cells within windows or cause the glass to tint on demand. For better efficiency, we have automated as many aspects of the experiments as possible. Now, we are optimizing the spray process by methodically varying a number of parameters.

I worked on equipment that is used to test the next generation of energy storage systems.Some of my projects included:1. Redesign and assembly of a sheet metal enclosure used for high-temperature cycle testing of batteries2. Conducting small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments, from sample preparation to preliminary analysis of results3. Writing a program to automate these experiments. For this project, I taught myself how to code a simple graphical user interface4. Debugging and repairing SAXS equipment's safety interlock circuit

I worked on a team that was developing new technologies for blast furnace cooling. This required:1. Evaluating stresses in static parts using classical approaches and Finite Element Analysis2. Statistically analyzing output from Discrete Element Method simulations3. Managing large data-sets (up to 70,000 rows), and examining them to identify trends4. Summarizing findings in formal reports, memos, and presentations

At this office of Natural Resources Canada, I helped to build a pilot-scale Energy-Recovery Coke Oven, or ERCO. These transform coal into coke (a crucial ingredient for steel production) more efficiently and with less pollution than traditional ovens. My work included:1. Assessing interferences due to thermal expansion of Energy Recovery Coke Oven (ERCO)2. Performing and documenting installation of insulation on ERCO doors3. Modelling and machining simple parts
