Mr. Smith continued teaching English during the second semester with the Ministry of Education's English Opens Doors program to Chilean students from fourth grade to twelfth grade Mr. Smith coached winning debate and spelling teams motivating the students to improve their English.Mr. Smith finished his English Opens Doors program and continued to teach directly with the school as an Assistant English and Physical Education teacher reinforcing the class concepts of of the local Chilean teachers picking up third grade along the way. Mr. Smith even had the wonderful opportunity to fill-in and teach pre-kinder to second grade when one of the English teachers was injured. One of his biggest accomplishments were helping the local Chilean teachers to improve the English SIMCE score (a national test given every two years) from 52% to 75% in just one and a half years.
