Meet with Physicians and others who have understanding of the generalizations of our care for people and expand their understanding to deeper levels. Provide leadership and actively participate at state and national organizations to learn and assist with education and lobbying. Guide people to an understanding of current practices and simultaneously enhance and grow in innovative ways while ensuring the future of our provider types. Participate in internal people initiatives to add value to staff roles and celebrate individual and team accomplishments. Maintain my visibility; profile and reputation while representing one of the only 3, Hospices of Distinction in Ohio. Which is the easiest part of my role.

Gardens of Western Reserve is a premier provider of Assisted Living, Hospice and Private Duty Home Care in the Cleveland and Akron Ohio area. I have been a fan of them for a long time as they provide amazing care, have beautiful buildings and have a lot of long term staff, many over 10 years. I have been working as a Consultant with them for 3 years and have joined them as Operations Director and could not be happier to be an official part of the Gardens Of Western Reserve Family.

Pathways Hospice, LLC was a start up in 2013. I began it with nothing but an empty office and about 3000 of my closest spider friends, who I quickly helped out of the suite. Being a minority owner and the operator and Executive Director, with no corporate support, HR or IT departments backing me up was an adventure. One that I very much embraced. I was able to get State Licensed and CHAP accredited in only 7 months. It was a very short period of time and was very exciting and somewhat challenging. The team that I was able to have join me was stellar. The care exemplary. The partners who we contracted with: Consolo Services as the Electronic Medical Record provider, Optum Hospice Pharmacy and AdvaCare were the best in the Hospice arena. We quickly added services like Pet Therapy, Music Therapy, Veterans Programs, Community Bereavement Programs, provided "Death Cafe's" to allow community members to discuss death and end of life and understand that they were not alone.The intimate and people driven hospice, quickly grew and was asked by the East Side of Cleveland facilities to expand to that side of town as well. This expansion was the first of several and allowed more exceptional hospice to be provided on both sides of Cleveland. A third office was opened in March of 2017 South of the Cleveland market in Ashland, Ohio. Simultaneously I began consulting for a nursing home company and opened a new office for them in Youngstown, Ohio and consultative control of their existing hospice office in McConnelsville, Ohio.With all of the moving parts and successes that we experienced over these 4 years, the controlling partners decided to sell, and quickly and easily were able to do so.Life continues and I am embracing new challenges and opportunities.

I partnered with the senior managers at the Akron/Cleveland, Ashtabula, Canton and Columbus Ohio locations to identify referral sources who may be good partners in caring for patients who have an end stage diagnosis. I was responsible for initiating contact and pursuing contracts and building relationships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, community resources, assisted livings, physicians and various referral sources for Hospice.

Responsible for the conduct of the agency and assumes all legal responsibility for adopting, implementing, enforcing, and monitoring adherence to company policies governing the agency’s total operations. Provides overall management of clinical, regulatory, administrative and financial direction of the hospice agency office and assumes final responsibility for all activities and personnel of the agency as outlined in the company’s policy and procedures manuals. Ensures the provision of hospice services that reflect the company philosophy and standards of hospice. Adheres to all state, federal, accrediting organization and other regulatory guidelines as applicable. Evaluates provision of services through quality assessment and improvement to ensure that safe, professional, quality healthcare services are provided.

I was the operations manager responsible for all aspects of fiscal,operational, sales and clinical operations. Manager of the year 2003. 300% increase in skilled care during this period of time.

Heartland Home Health and Hospice was an incredible place to learn the industry. I did everything from sweep the floors to contract with Physicians and Facilities. I learned about contract details. Interviewing Physicians. Discussing home health and hospice with patients and families as well as industry professionals became my specialty. I spoke in front of large numbers of professionals, learned how to successfully provide a soft sell and the importance of asking open ended questions, restating the details and closing the conversation.

Responsible for overall census of the building, including all outreach to Physicians, Hospitals and Nursing Homes. Responsible for creating community events and getting local appropriate families and referral sources to attend.
