Darren leads Mastercard’s Public Sector team for Latin America and the Caribbean. As Senior Vice President, he engages with local and national public sector leaders to develop public-private partnerships, supporting governments in their digital transformation efforts, financial inclusion and modernization of public finance management. He has worked in the technology sector across Latin America and the Caribbean for 20+ years, leading strategy and business development across digitalization agendas and financial inclusion. He developed the regional strategy for Mastercard to engage with governments in LAC, built a team across 10 countries, and significantly expanded the public sector business in collaboration with banks, fintechs and ecosystem partners. He has led Mastercard’s implementation of the Digital Country Partnerships program across Latin America and the company’s collaboration with the Partnership for Central America, an initiative initiated by a Call to Action from The White House. He regularly engages with heads of state and public sector officials across the region to advance their understanding of Mastercard capabilities to expand access to the digital economy. He brings to the role a broad understanding of technology, senior management skills, a unique ability to connect the dots, as well as deep ethical commitment to doing well by doing good.Before Mastercard, Darren was at Cisco Systems for 14 years in a variety of roles across emerging markets, Latin America and global teams. He held both strategy and business development roles and built a City Diagnostics model to benchmark Emerging Markets city efforts against global best practices, summary of which was published in the WEF’s Global IT Report. In addition to these smart city efforts, he also later drove Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration efforts with key national governments in Latin America.Darren is currently based in Miami, while originally from South Carolina. He holds both his undergraduate and Master of International Business Studies (MIBS) degrees from the University of South Carolina. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and has lived in Spain, Argentina and Brazil.
