In coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, updated the state’s guidance to state agency staff on effective participation in local planning. Participated in the legislative process, including successful passage of a bill granting the department authority to grant expedited review of local government development regulation amendments. Developed the State Agency Correspondence Principles, a set of expectations governing state agency participation in the local government planning process, signed by seven state agency directors. Developed and secured funding for the Plan View Data System, the first online tool for state agencies to directly access local government planning proposals submitted to the unit for 60-day review. Managed seven direct reports and two indirect reports as part of the unit’s management team. Supervised local planners who assist local governments and review local government plan and development regulation proposals. Wrote the agency’s guidance paper on establishing appropriate urban densities. Provided technical assistance and drafted comments on comprehensive plan and development regulation amendments for jurisdictions in eastern and western Washington. Facilitated discussions between local jurisdictions and state agency staff on critical areas, buildable lands analysis, transportation concurrency and other complex growth management issues.
