When I was selected to race in Leogang Austria MTB Worlds, the next year, I called Benjamin, (I was ranked 19th in the elite men's XCE), and he had a Specialized Turbo eMTB, waiting for me, at the Headquarters in Munich. (Trek didn't have budget due to Covid). I also worked the tech zone pits, for main events, with US team due to Covid staffing shortage. Bicycle Service Manager
Formula Sports of Sun Valley, Idaho is a World Famous, independent bicycle dealer. A Trek bicycles IBD since 1990. As the service manager, I decided on Trek bicycles and we contacted Joe Vadeboncor. I worked with Formula Sports for 30 years. My first of many trips to Europe, was to race the inaugural UCI Grundig World Cup. Trek bikes, and Formula Sports, sponsored my efforts, to the first Mountain Bike World Championships, in Durango Colorado. I became a mainstay on the NORBA scene, while still managing a full time job. I was offered a spot with the Cannondale team, representing Team USA at 4 World Championships. 30 years later, working as the bike service Manager at Formula sports, I found myself back in the Mountain bike World Championships, with a sponsorship from Trek national sales marketing money. As a member of Team USA Cycling, in Mount Sainte Anne, Quebec. This time, instead of Downhill and Cross Country, it was the new eMTB (XCE) races. I also went to Leogang Austria, and Val Di Sole' Italy with USA cycling, assisted in the technical pit zones for the main events, and raced the eMTB races. The bicycle industry has been good to me. I have a true passion for riding, and the innovation, and technology changes have been amazing. Wireless Bluetooth shifting, hydraulic disc brakes, and now electric mountain biking. It is dream come true for a 50 year old mountain biker. Today I rebuild eBike motors, am Bosch certified and SRAM certified. I love the ease of wireless seatposts, and shifting. From a technicians point of view, it is like wizardry, eliminating the painstaking process of internally routing cables through frames.
