Multiple expansions were added to a parallel scientific library known as the Interoperable Executive Library (IEL). The first expansion consisted of adding multiple libraries of mathematical and physical solvers to the software package to be compiled and used portably using gmake, cmake, bash scripting and SVN. I gave one-on-one teaching and assistance to students in the first two semesters of introductory Computer Science in out-of-class labs. In these labs, students were challenged to apply their new fundamental skills in C++ to many problems designed to challenge them and encourage good programming habits.
