I most recently held the full-time position of Development Management Team Leader in the Regeneration and Planning Service at Inverclyde Council. This followed on from positions as Supervisory Planner and Senior Planner at two Councils. I most recently managed a team of 3 other professional planners and part managed a support team of 5 staff.I was responsible for all aspects of major planning applications and ensuring the efficient running of the Development Management Team. I most recently also helped run aspects of the Policy Team function in the absence of a Team Leader since November 2021 and also handled all Planning related aspects of the management of the whole Planning Service in the absence of a Planning and Building Standards Manager for most of the period since March 2020.Professionally I have a keen interest in managing changes in the urban and rural environment and ensuring that it is carried out in the best public interest. I was also keen on ensuring that all members of my team were well treated, guided in their professional development and were provided with opportunities to advance their careers, whilst ensuring that each day is different and enjoyable.In May 2022 I decided that the time was right to take a career break after 37 years unbroken employment, 35 of those in Local Government Planning. This has subsequently become early retirement. I have also engaged in a range of volunteering activities, all of which it was not possible to engage in whilst working full-time.I would be open to part-time work opportunities and feel that my volunteering has widened my range of skills and interests.
