David Ashton's design career spans four decades. He received his BFA from the College of William & Mary design program in 1962. Returning to his native Maryland, he began his career at the iconic Baltimore design firm, Barton Gillet. In 1968, he founded Ashton Worthington, remembered as one of the premier Baltimore design studios of the 1970s and '80s. He launched David Ashton & Associates (now Ashton Design) in 1985. He attributes his timeless design style on a "profoundly influential" Quaker upbringing: "It taught me to appreciate simplicity, clean and classic design," he says. David has been a designer, businessman, teacher, and mentor. Anyone who has seen his office also knows he is a collector. The antique advertising art, tin signs, posters, and books that crowd his work area have inspired countless design solutions. At his 13-acre "gentle farm" in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, he not only restored the 1850 farmhouse to its original condition, he has also collected several antique buildings, including an 1840 log cabin that he re-assembled, stick by stick, on the property.
