These topics include the difference between a financial planner and an investment adviser (service providers want to wear both hats to collect both fees); the disadvantages of mutual funds, ETFs and TDFs (service providers sell these products); the difference between suitability, Regulation Best Interest (BI), and fiduciary (service providers don't want to conform to a higher ethical bar); participants in the financial planning/investment field (the service provider is not going to tell you about its competitors); developing an investment objective; an investment adviser’s advantages over other investment firms; being aware of some of the $17 billion in EXCESSIVE fees charged annually (the perfect crime?); the insidious long-term impact of fees on portfolio; avoiding scams and the dangers of cryptocurrencies; the importance of saving early and compound interest; and measuring investment performance.All California companies with at least five employees must offer their employees a retirement plan. But just because a firm offers its employees a retirement plan doesn't mean their employees know how to invest. A 2021 Schwab survey indicated HALF of 401(k) participants do not know what to invest in despite service providers having websites to teach participants how to invest. When half the participants don't know what to do, the current system is BROKEN. And service providers have conflicts of interest, thus providing only selective disclosure rather than full disclosure.
