I am a retired US Naval Aviator with Accounting as a second professional career. I began my accounting career while still in the US Navy by enrolling in accounting classes at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. I continued my accounting studies at Southern Oregon University after retirement and moving to southern Oregon. I passed the CPA exam in November 1996 and earned my CPA license in 2001. I have worked in the industry since.I was one of the original school board members of Logos Public Charter School in early 2010 and was instrumental in fiscal policy formation. I joined Logos as an independent contractor in March 2011 and became the Business Manager in July 2011.I continued policy formation at Logos and have written approximately one third of the school's policies as well as co-authored many other. I co-authored the first Employee Handbook and contribute to each yearly revision.As Business Manager my duties included preparing for the annual audit (Unqualified Opinion each year), all facets of the Business Office including (but not limited to) banking, general ledger, payroll, payables, receivables, mandatory financial reporting to the District and Oregon Department of Education, grant reconciliation and reporting, purchasing, vendor management and contracting, insurance (health, liability, and comprehensive).I also was responsible for all facets of Human Resources (except hiring, firing, and discipline) for two years and currently am responsible for much of the paperwork (health insurance, health savings accounts, public employee retirement system [PERS] accounting and reporting. I write and have written (with legal counsel guidance) all personnel contracts for Logos.Logos utilizes an Online Purchasing System (OPS) to purchase all curriculum and manage all student allotment accounts in concert with the teachers and various vendors. I have been and am responsible for the vendors and student allotment.
