The Assistant Deputy for Wastewater oversees all aspects of the Wastewater System which includes leading a staff of over 250 people, 14 wastewater treatment facilities and a complex wastewater conveyance system; operating on an annual budget in excess of $150 million. Wholesale wastewater services are provided for 24 cities and 1.8 million people in the North Texas area.

This position is responsible for all matters pertaining to the Sewer System Plants operations, including the maintenance, administration, and operation of its facilities. Major responsibilities would include providing leadership to staff, develop and implement processes to meet regulatory requirements, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, maintain infrastructure to improve reliability and optimize investments, preparation and management of the associated annual budgets, manage and lead staff to ensure continued success in carrying out NTMWD’s vision and mission.

Under the direction of the Regional Wastewater System Manager, the Assistant Regional Wastewater System Manager manages the administration, operations, and maintenance of regional wastewater treatment plant(s) to ensure compliance with District and regulatory procedures, requirements, and reporting practices in an efficient and cost effective manner.1. Manages work schedules, procedures, and personnel to ensure operations and maintenance is completed to improve reliability, optimize investments, and achieve regulatory compliance.2. Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Regional Wastewater System goals, objectives, policies and procedures; ensures that goals are achieved.3. Assist in the overall preparation, organization and management of annual budgets, and monitors established budget and ensures adherence to purchasing requirements.4. Directly supervise staff to include hiring, performance evaluations and coaching to support staff development.5. Prepares, analyzes, and distributes wastewater reports and data as necessary to ensure proactive management of resources. 6. Review and coordinate capital project needs, coordinates with staff and Engineering department in successful execution of capital improvements, and facilitates handoff of projects to facility staff.7. Participates in the management of Operations projects, engineering studies, cost estimates and operational procurement projects.8. Ensures safety and efficiency of all plant operations and processes.9. Communicate effectively with staff reporting up through you, the NTMWD Management, other departments, regulatory agencies, external providers, and other groups and/or committees as needed.10. This position is responsible to the Project Manager, Central Regional Wastewater System for the planning, organization and direction of the Maintenance Department, and maintaining strict control over work quality output.1. Directs the Maintenance Department, Liquids and Solids Divisions and the Electrical and Electronics Divisions.2. Coordinates maintenance activities with the Operations Department to ensure the highest levels of process equipment availability and reliability.3. Ensures that proper safety practices and procedures are observed and enforced.4. Plans and coordinates the maintenance training programs within the Department. Plans and coordinates the transition of equipment from construction projects to plant maintenance.5. Maintains all plant assets through the Maintenance Management System incorporating assetmanagement principles. Utilizes Reliability Centered Maintenance Management principles and techniques to optimize the maintenance program.6. Prepares budget estimates and Maintenance Department cost controls in all assigned accounts.7. Responds to serious malfunctions of equipment and other emergencies at any time of the day or night.8.
