Managing the resolution of complaints regarding the administration of taxation, including by the Australian Taxation Office and the Tax Practitioners Board. Undertaking broader reviews and making recommendations to the ATO and to the Government.

• Reviewing Income Tax disputes and issuing the ATO’s final decision• Applying legislation, rulings, and precedential views to the facts presented by taxpayers on issues including but not limited to residency, source, CGT, FBT, FOREX, and deductions• Assessing the correctness of audit decisions• Compliance roles in GST, Excise, and Income Tax. Conducting audits; analysing financial statements, BAS and IT returns, and the underlying records. Issuing audit outcomes and raising tax liabilities.

• Approving dispute decisions on tax issues including but not limited to income, residency, source, CGT, FBT, FOREX, and deductions • Identifying and communicating relevant legislative changes, recent court findings, and decision impact statements• Developing team capability in interpreting and applying tax legislation• Providing feedback to senior management on team capability

• Identifying trends within the tax agent community and reporting the findings to senior management• Analysing, managing and communicating performance to internal stakeholders including senior management• Ensuring team productivity• Developing and implementing the team plan, policies and procedures• Managing team workflow, allocating work suitable to individual’s capabilities• Coaching staff members in achieving their goals

The graduate program consisted of weekly training and practical experience. As a rotation based program, I gained exposure to indirect tax and the cash economy, conducting reviews and audits of small to medium entities.
