Through Svartvik Metalworks, Ltd. David built and operates a full-service metal shop which designs and produces jewelry, artwork and architectural details for clients including municipalities, universities, museums and designers. (Selected projects: a Frank Lloyd Wright house; Stanford’s Memorial Church, Memorial Auditorium, Old Student Union and Main Quad; the Pagoda at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco; Cranbrook Educational Community in Bloomfield Hills, MI.)David is also a Senior Adjunct Professor at California College of the Arts. He teaches undergraduates and advises graduate students on multiple aspects of art making theory and practice – primarily in the Jewelry and Metal Arts program – but also through Design, Craft Marketing and Art + Technology classes.In collaboration with Michael Brown, has created several major pieces of public art for cities, states and private clients across the country. The work is often interactive and highly engineered, with kinetic components that activate the sculpture and respond to its environment. (Permanent works commissioned by: City of Bend, OR; City of Boise, ID; State of Colorado; State of Washington; City of Lafayette, CA – currently in process.)At the Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco, he teaches and advises resident innovators and employees at the Pier 9 facility. (Current classes include: Metal Shop Orientation, Basic Lathe, Basic Milling Machine, Metal Bending, Welding – GMAW, GTAW steel & aluminum – and ShopBot CNC router.)
