Yoti is an exciting new digital identity platform, built for privacy and security by design. Such novel technological solutions can require a lot of explanation when we seek to gain acceptance from regulators, corporate clients in many sectors (finance, government, travel, retail) and the public. As Technical Writer here I have produced public white papers explaining our technology (such as our machine-learning/AI-powered 'Age Scan' age estimation service), and am heavily involved in supporting our compliance requirements against several internationally recognised standards, including ISO27001 for information security, the BSI's PAS1296 Code of Conduct for the provision of online age-check services, the UK government/BBFC 'AV Certificate' scheme, US HIPAA laws on health data, and seeing us through SOC2 examinations of our security.

Contract technical author role at this not-for-profit company which administers government schemes in the electricity sector (focussing on renewable energy and security of supply). I helped develop a portfolio of local working instructions to meet the needs of their business whilst complying with the relevant Statutory Instruments, and helped improve their document management systems.

This contract role was based in a Research & Development team, bringing a Programmable Logic Controller to market, chiefly used for industrial process control in the heat treatment of metals and plastics. The product was based on Eurotherm’s I/O hardware and the third party Codesys (IEC 61131-3) software platform. I produced API and programming library documentation, using Adobe Technical Communicator Suite, working with SVN and HTML Help.

Contract technical author role in small team, producing documentation to assist with migration of AIG’s entire European portfolio of IT applications and infrastructure, from local in-country hosting to new consolidated datacentres in the US and UK. We produced profiles, installation and support guides for over 300 applications. Included periods working on-site in Brussels and Dublin.

I joined the tech start-up Codefarm Software Ltd as their 16th employee. Codefarm specialised in financial optimization software. Their platform was based around genetic algorithms and widely used in the structured finance sector. I was their sole author, producing all the company’s customer-facing documentation. In 2009, Codefarm were acquired by the financial software solutions provider Calypso Technology, where I continued my authoring role, working in their Brighton business unit.

Working as a lead author in a large publications department, producing and maintaining user and service documentation sets for several product lines of radiotherapy and oncology equipment. Documents were both paper-based and on-line. Products combined hi-tech engineering, hardware & software systems. Liaising with clinical specialists, software developers and factory R&D engineers, plus hospital site visits in Europe. This was a highly regulated medical environment where documentation was required to comply with exacting international legal standards.
