Currently I am employed within the City of Edinburgh Council's Road Asset Management Planning (RAMP) team as a Project Officer.I am responsible for analysing the SMRCS data provided to the Council to produce a programme of work for the coming years as well as producing the road asset management plan itself, in which we outline our investment strategy.

I was employed as an Engineer within the City of Edinburgh Council’s Transport Design & Delivery team. In this role I was responsible for carrying out detailed designs of proposed road improvement projects, including public realm works at St Andrews Square and Rose Street.This also required that I undertook surveys and risk assessments to ensure the proposals were compliant with the technical design standards and health & safety regulations. During the design process I was required to liaise with stakeholders affected by proposed works and prepare documents that were to be read by both technical and non technical readers.I also needed to prepare and check cost estimates & work orders for issuing to contractors as well as monitoring project costs/minor budgets.

I was employed as a Senior Technician with Jacobs Infrastructure, based in their Edinburgh office's highways team. During my time in this role I served as a coordinator for a small CAD team, meeting with project managers on a weekly basis to maintain a two week program of their CAD requirements, prioritizing this work and then distributing it amongst the team. I worked on the A9 Dualling Scheme, using MX to produce proposed alignments for consideration. I am also producing other drawings that will be included in the report, including drawings showing the existing conditions, existing utilities and accident locations as well as plan and profile drawings showing the proposed design and drawings showing the existing constraints that were to be taken into consideration.I produced mainline alignment drawings for a series of options that were included in the DMRB stage 2 report for the A96 Dualling Scheme, as well as landowner consultation drawings. I also designed road signs for the proposed alignment using KeySign.I have produced planning appliaction drawings for the Elgin Western Link Road project and figures to be included in the A83 Trunk Road Study report as well as a series of drawings showing the departures from standards on the proposed M8/M73/M74 improvements tender. On this project I have also produced drawings showing existing utilities that will be affected by the works and the proposed street lighting and associated ducting.

I spent a six month secondment at BEAR Scotland, working for the Road Safety and Minor Improvements team in their Bilston Glen depot.I was involved in a number of schemes, carrying out a site visit to investigate a landslip on the A1 at Lamberton and overseen the drain rodding. I also worked on a scheme on the A7 in Selkirk where I designed a new shared cycle route and revised the signing provision.I designed new road markings for schemes on the Newbridge roundabout dedicated slip roads, the A702 and on the A7 near Arkleton I confirmed road markings on site with the contractor and marked the changes of line types with paint.I also prepared bills of quantity for these projects to be submitted for approval before these schemes can be carried out by the operations team.I prepared traffic impact assessments for the traffic management that will be in place for patching works on the A1 at Fairnieside and the refurbishment of the bridges between junctions 4 and 6 on the M8 to ensure that they will not adversely effect the flow of traffic while the works are being carried out.

I was employed in the rail department of Jacobs Infrastructure, based in the Glasgow office. In this role I produced a series of drawings highlighting bridge defects that were noted during site visits as well as any potential repairs to be carried out. I also produced design drawings for proposed stations for the Scottish borders rail project and Coventry station. I worked on reinforced concrete drawings for Linlithgow station and was involved in producing drawings designing a new footbridge at Hyndland station.I was heavily involved in the Edinburgh to Glasgow improvements project, producing the maps, plans and sections to be submitted to parliament for approval. These are to show the areas of land that will potentially need to be purchased to allow the works to be carried out as well as the relevant cross and long sections.While working on these projects I was also been introduced to the Microstation design package.

I was employed as a Senior Technician in the Transport Planning team at Jacobs Consultancy’s Edinburgh office and I was involved in a range of projects, including the Bishopbriggs Quality Bus Corridors, Abbotsinch Car Park and a variety of modelling projects.During the Bishopbriggs Quality Bus Corridors project I designed improvements along a road that would improve provision for cyclists and buses. For this I had to decide which options were the most suitable to the area as well as producing drawings showing my proposals and the accompanying design statement that explained my proposals and the documents I referred to during the decision making process.For BEAR Scotland I surveyed sites where traffic signals were proposed, to gather the information required for signal design. I also got an introduction to the signal design process, being involved in a design from initial appointment until submission to the local authority for approval.I was also heavily involved in the Forth Replacement Crossing project, assisting with the construction and development of Paramics traffic models. I particularly contributed to the addition of ITS gantries and the associated detector loops to the microsimulation models.I have used the SATURN transport modelling software on the A19 Route Improvement project in the North of England and the N13/N14/N15 Traffic Model Study in Ireland. On both commissions I coded base models in SATURN using exported TRIPS models as a base and information gathered from site visits or the internet. On the N13/N14/N15 project I also coded a number of future year options in the network and helped assess the impact that they may have on traffic flows. During this project I used the GIS tools within SATURN to output networks to be displayed over a map background in the MapInfo GIS software for figures to be used in the report documents.

I was employed as a Technician in the Development Infrastructure team in WSP Development’s Edinburgh office and I produced scheme design drawings using CAD for the Royal Bank of Scotland Headquarters in Edinburgh, including road markings design, setting out and cross sections. I produced fully co-ordinated utility drawings for the entire site showing incoming telecommunication, gas, electricity and water services as well as overseeing dipping tests undertaken on site. Whilst working on this project I also used AutoTrack to carry out vehicle swept path analysis.I also produced road construction consent packages to be submitted to local authorities for a variety of large housing developments. These packages consisted of plans, cross sections and long sections. I also assisted with drainage design whilst working on these projects. I used the PDS design package and Micro Drainage software to assist me in producing these construction consent packages.I also worked on the South Lanarkshire Schools PPP project, where I produced drawings showing both the existing and proposed drainage schemes for each of the 18 schools included in the project as well as drawings showing the proposed traffic calming measures for the schools and the surrounding areas.

I was based in the Transport Strategy Division of Babtie Group’s Edinburgh office and during my time working there I became proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, comprising of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project. I produced figures to be presented in reports and at public inquiries for the A1 Loughbrickland to Newry in Ireland using Micrografx Designer. Working on the A90 Kingsway in Dundee I surveyed the area that was to be upgraded before producing drawings using AutoCAD and then calculating the Bill of Quantity for the project. I also surveyed junctions for the Edinburgh Tram Line project and the Central Scotland Transport Corridor Study (CSTCS).Using AutoCAD I produced utilities drawings for the Edinburgh Tram Line project as well as designing a Park and Ride site for the Straiton Transportation Study and marking up proposed improvements to various rail stations in Scotland for the SESTRANS Public Transport Fund Bid. I also designed an access to a proposed new development at Port Edgar and produced plans highlighting junction problems in Edinburgh using AutoCAD.Using TRIPS software I produced a transport model for the N25 Rosslare project in the Republic of Ireland. I also have a basic knowledge of various transport specific programs such as TRICS, COBA, QUADRO and ARCADY.
