Provide leadership, direction, and management of Sponsored Programs Administration with research expenditures totaling more than $265 million for FY 2022. Work closely with Vice Chancellor of Research and the University of Nebraska System to implement and update individual campus and university wide policies, practices, and procedures. Work closely with other Office of Research support units to ensure coordinated customer service to the faculty, staff, and students at the University.

Responsible for the day-to-day oversight, management, and operation of the Colorado State University’s (CSU) Office of Sponsored Programs and its staff of thirty-three. Annual research expenditures of the University totaled more than $390 Million in FY 2018. Handled negotiation of high profile, complex, and nonstandard research agreements. Work closely with Director and Vice President of Research office to implement and update university wide policies, practices, and procedures. Served as the primary point of contact with external auditors relating to all of CSU’s extramural activities. Work closely with other Vice President for Research support units to ensure coordinated customer service to the faculty, staff, and students at the University.

Responsible for providing contract related services for ITECS-Innovative clients that were new to working with the federal government. Worked with a wide variety of small, medium, and large sized for-profit and non-profit clients providing individual project support. Advised on policy and procedure issues in the areas of intellectual property, contracting, subcontracting, audit preparation, and cost accounting.

Responsible for the day-to-day oversight, management, and operation of the Engineering Research Services Office (ERS) and its staff of ten. Responsible for all pre and post award sponsored research activities for the College of Engineering. Research activities within ERS accounted for greater than one-fifth of the total annual research awards and expenditures of the University totaling more than $150 million in FY 2010.

Provided leadership of the foundation, a separate 501(c)3 organization of the University that was responsible for all research related activities on behalf of The Ohio State University. Reported to the foundation’s board of directors with an indirect report to the University’s Senior Vice President for Research. Oversight of five separate units including: Sponsored Programs, Financial Management, Information Systems, Human Resources, Training and Communications Offices with a combined staff of one hundred plus. Responsible for all aspects of sponsored research support services for the entire University totaling more than $500 million in research related expenditures for fiscal year 2006. Worked closely with the other research related support offices to include Office for Technology Licensing, Office for Responsible Research Practices, and University Laboratory Animal Resources to ensure coordinated customer service to the faculty, staff, and students at the University.

Responsible for the oversight, management, and operation of the Engineering Experiment Station (EES) and its staff of ten. Provided oversight of the College’s discretionary budget in the support of its research infrastructure totaling ~$5 million annually. Assist the Dean and Associate Dean for Research in the development and execution of research and research related policies and support within the College. Responsible for providing fiscal management and oversight for all interdisciplinary centers held at the College level. Was also responsible for all pre award sponsored research activities for the College of Engineering from 2002 through 2006, when the sponsored programs activities where consolidated under Engineering Research Services.

Responsible for pre award services to assigned constituencies in several positions of increasing complexity, scope, and responsibility. Assist faculty, staff and students in the identification, preparation, submission of research proposals to all extramural sponsor bases. Responsible for the negotiation of awards, grants, and contracts of successful proposals within the College on behalf of the University.
