Sabic Petrochemicals North Tees Site

As the Control Systems Engineer working on the SABIC UK Petrochemicals, North Tees Site, this is a high hazard COMAH registered petrochemicals site. I provided instrumentation and DCS & control system engineering support to the plant technical and operations teams for issues such as, fault finding and rectification, system design and configuration, control optimisation and tuning, and overseeing control systems change management processes in a safe manner.I have been involved with many major projects, including extensive cutovers of pneumatic and electronic panel instrumentation/legacy DCS systems onto DeltaV DCS, both online and offline. I have also implemented the installation of plant wireless networks, transferring hard wired logic sequencing and shutdown systems onto DeltaV SIS, HIMA PLC’s, transfer of PLC sequencing to DCS, also integrating other systems into DCS via serial communications/OPC.Principal Accountabilities:• DCS & Instrumentation engineering expertise for the North Tees Site, this consists of an Aromatics refinery, Ethylene Liquefaction plants and a large storage, logistics and services infrastructure.• System management, change control for plant systems.• Control scheme identification, design and implementation.• Manage plant systems and interfaces, and provide rapid modification support to configuration and control applications to support operational needs.• Development and implementation of alarm management processes in line with EEMUA guidelines.• Project support, design, delivery, FAT and SAT/commissioning.• Liaise with external suppliers as required to deliver effective solutions.• Resolution of DCS and plant instrumentation/control related technical issues.• Operations and Technical team training.

Sabic - Paraxylene 5 Facility

Working as part of the Paraxylene 5 plant engineering and maintenance team I was responsible for providing technical support to the plant instrument teams assisting in troubleshooting and fault resolution. Additionally my role involved development and management of the plant instrumentation and control systems, predominantly DeltaV DCS. During this time I was involved in a major plant overhaul, this involved a significant expansion to the plant control systems, including installation of Foundation Fieldbus plant instrumentation, a major version upgrade to the installed DeltaV DCS and also the design, implementation and commissioning of DeltaV SIS to replace existing hard wired relay based trip systems and obsolete burner management systems.

North Tees Site

Working as a member of the North Tees site engineering team this role provided the front line of technical support to the plant Instrument/Electrical maintenance teams. This included delivering plant engineering troubleshooting support, auditing, updating of standards and procedures, project definition and support, often this required working alongside external design agencies to produce design packages to meet operational requirements in terms of functional specification, cost and schedule for various projects on large-scale petrochemical plants and refineries. During my time in this role I was appointed site specialist for process analyser systems and the nominated responsible person for fire and toxic/flammable gas detection. This involved becoming the key point of contact for design, commissioning and troubleshooting support for complex analytical equipment (such as, gas chromatographs, catalytic and optical gas detection systems, etc), and associated sampling/handling systems.Other areas of involvement in this role were, DCS, legacy control systems, high integrity trip systems (HIPPS), VSD’s, MCC’s, PLC’s and general plant instrument & electrical equipment.
