Once having finished English Philology, and after doing one course of English Literature PhD, I started as comics editor at Grupo Planeta, with my duties mainly focused on national editions of DC Comics. My previous professional background, with collaborations to comic publishers in Spain such as Dolmen, Norma and Panini, helped me in getting my first attempt at editorial chores at Planeta.Since then, I got experience not only in how a comic is published, but also on all topics related to book business: from marketing departments, sales network, distribution, taking profit of all the experience working at a big company like Planeta gives.My job description got more responsibilities from 2011 until today, as Editorial Director of the Planeta comics department. Nowadays I handle the annual publishing plan, and the budget associated to it, as well as daily negotiations with the most important comic partners in the world, such as Shueisha/VME, Kodansha, Shogakukan, Image, Dynamite, Dargaud, Dupuis, Lombard, Delcourt, Glenat, Top Shelf, First Second, Dark Horse, Boom Studios, Tohan Agency, Tuttle Mori Agency and more. Besides international deals, I also coordinate translators, letterers, national authors and the editorial team within the department, with a clockwork procedure that do not miss a release deadline.The main objective is to publish a well balanced number of titles, by selecting among the best books in the market and by adjusting both internal and external costs in order to get the better economical result possible, without forgetting new and bold directions in editorial formats.
