He has coached at Australian club, state and national levels at various clubs including Wellington Fencing Club (1992-1995), Macquarie University Fencing Club (1995-96), UTS Fencing Club (1997-2003) and the highly successful UNSW Fencing Club (2004-2014).In 2018 David joined Hills Athletic Fencing Club. In 2018 HAFC became Grand Prix Champions/NSW Fencing Club of the year.

He has been NSW & Australian Captain numerous times. He was a member of and captained the undefeated NSW Open Men’s Sabre team from 1997 -2002 who held the national open men's sabre team title.
