Brain Trauma Biochemist
Current• Developed, initiated, managed and executed mission-oriented research studies that evaluated the biochemical and physiological consequences in severe penetrating and mild projectile concussive brain injury at their corresponding acute and longitudinal profiles. • Serves as a co-investigator on an intramural-funded research project which, 1) evaluates the extent of peripheral inflammatory cell infiltration and oxidative damage, 2) identifies microRNA biomarkers, 3) explores mechanisms of neurodegeneration and 4) determines the ability to alter the molecular injury/repair profile with drug therapies at subacute and chronic periods in both models of brain injury. Contributes original studies in order to develop evidence-based strategies to diagnose and mitigate the effects of concussion in our Soldiers. • Communicates and disseminates findings within the Army, at professional conferences and in scholarly peer-reviewed publications. • Mentors junior officers, enlisted personnel and research technicians on scientific, military, and professional development skills.
