Process Engineer
Lindsey Oil Refinery - Immingham
I was responsible for 9 live refinery units: HF Alkylation; MTBE; TAME; two Propylene Splitters; Catalytic Polymerisation unit; Caustic Neutralisation Unit and two Sour Water Units. In this role, I acquired substantial technical knowledge together with an excellent appreciation of refining economics. My analytical skills were fully utilised through trouble-shooting the various units. I have also been involved in several optimisation projects to maximise their profitability. I coordinated HAZOP studies for basic engineering packages that I have produced. I am required as a matter of routine, to ensure compliance for existing equipment and new builds with industry standards such as API 520/521 and in-house engineering specifications. I have been involved in SIL reviews, RCA and Task Analyses as a Process Engineer. I worked as part of investigation teams to determine reasons for process upsets. I initiated numerous projects for inclusion in the CAPEX budget through feasibility studies. I developed each idea from conception through to basic costing within a very tight schedule. I calculated a justification for each possible project, which included project intent and scope, mass and energy balances, PFD’s and P&ID’s. I also calculated basic costs, which I used to establish a payback time. I have taken conceptual ideas and have developed them into FEED packages ready for detailed engineering. The FEED packages consist of a Basis of Design, Project P&ID, Tie-in Schedule and Line List. Project work has included relief valve sizing calculations, control valve sizing, pump sizing calculations, hydraulic calculations and metallurgical considerations.
