I am a shareholder with Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, PC., in its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. I focus my practice on complex ERISA litigation, traditional labor law, transactional work involving employee-related issues, and general employment law, with a particular emphasis on the coal industry. My ERISA practice involves substantial work with multiemployer trust funds, including claims for delinquent contributions and withdrawal liability, as well as related questions of control group and alter ego responsibility. My knowledge in the ERISA and traditional labor law arenas complements my transactional practice, which includes helping clients structure acquisitions and divestitures to help minimize control group, single employer and other employee-related liabilities. I am a past President of the Eastern Mineral Law Foundation and I have published many papers for the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation and others dealing with a variety of benefits and labor topics that can be found on my firm’s website, www.bipc.com.Since 2007, I have been recognized in the Labor and Employment Law category on The Best Lawyers in America® list, and was also recognized in the Natural Resources Law category in the publication's 2008–2012 editions. I am the Co-Chair of the Labor, Employment, Benefits, and Immigration Group at Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, PC, in its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. Our Group includes approximately 60 lawyers and handles all aspects of the employment relationship. I focus my practice on traditional labor law, complex ERISA litigation, transactional work involving employee-related issues, and general employment law. My ERISA practice involves substantial work with multiemployer trust funds, including claims for delinquent contributions and withdrawal liability, as well as related questions of control group and alter ego responsibility. My ERISA and traditional labor law practices complements my transactional practice, which includes helping clients structure acquisitions and divestitures to help minimize control group, single employer, and other employee-related liabilities, as well as the negotiation of employment agreements and employee-related sale and purchase agreement terms.
