I was approached by GEC and offered a sponsorship to attend Cranfield Institute of Technology on the MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering. I spent the first year of my time with GEC setting up the production area for a new product, acquiring the tools and documenting the working practices. Upon my return from Cranfield I undertook a senior role in the department and was responsible for a team of twelve graduates. Identifying potential projects and reviewing their progress. I was also the Team Leader for the Quality First initiative that helped the company gain ISO9001 accreditation.

I joined Ferranti as an Industrial Engineer and spent the first twelve months working in various departments in the company. These where Machine shop, Printed Circuit Assembly, Time study, PCB Manufacture, R & D etc.• Introduced Supercapes into the Printed Circuit assembly area.• Developed and managed stores software for the control of shop tools and consumable items.• Undertook project to redesign factory layout in order to optimise the material flow.• Process planning for machine shop including CNC programming.• Attended work-study and rating clinics
