Develop and support various JSP web portal applications.Developed Java servlet and PL-SQL stored procedures to update user account information for the DFAS Indianapolis web portal. The Servlet communicates with an external data store via the SOAP protocol to receive information about new and current users. The information in the SOAP response is then extracted by the servlet via regular expressions and passed to PL-SQL stored procedures to perform a database update. The servlet then uses the updated database to construct an XML file detailing access permissions for ~ 24,000 users. The finished XML file is then transferred to the web portal server via FTP.Developed a web-based application for accessing status information about various personnel actions (awards, promotions, etc.) The user can enter various search criteria (Type of Action, Date of Request, etc.) and the application will return a list of matching actions. The user may then click on an individual entry to see detailed information including milestone dates and the current owner of the action. Developed workflow automation tool for personnel actions. This tool provides a web-accessible version of a Microsoft Word form that was disseminated via email when initiating a personnel action, allowing users to store form data fields within an Oracle database. The application also allows users to append notes (stored as a CLOB) and supporting documents (stored as BLOBs) to the form. Once entered, a request and its attendant notes and attachments can be forwarded to the next user in the workflow, eliminating the need for extensive email traffic.

Develop and support various Cold Fusion applications used to facilitate engineering activities.Collaborate with senior programmers to extend and maintain the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) application. This Cold Fusion application automates the approval process for the sale of defense articles to foreign countries.Develop end user documentation for various elements of the FMS system.Create end user reports for the FMS system; end users can export these reports to an Excel file for easier manipulation and printing.Build prototype web applications, demonstrating the integration possibilities of J2EE technologies (JSP and Tomcat) with the Cold Fusion application server. Present prototypes to the information technology steering committee. Responsible for recommending a Cold Fusion / J2EE solution for the migration of legacy FoxPro applications.

Developed and supported various Java, ASP, and Cold Fusion applications for ALL's clients and internal use.Redesigned and implemented the MBOGC's Java-based oil and gas data display application.Designed a web-based interface for the existing employee time tracking tool. Built a working prototype design using Macromedia's Cold Fusion Studio. Liaised with other staff members to integrate the legacy Access-based system with the new web front end.Collaborated with other employees to develop Cold Fusion-based web forms for editing and viewing oil and gas well data. These forms are part of a web-based tax incentive calculation application for Encore Exploration Company. Developed data-driven web survey forms using VBScript and ASP. These surveys were used to collect information for the GWPC regarding various aspects of Coal-Bed Methane development. Completed the ASP scripting work for the Hall, Estill law firm's web site. The new web site allows updating of attorney biographical data through a web form. It also displays data (including the aforementioned attorney biographies) pulled dynamically from an Access database.

Developed and maintained portions of a web-based network management system (NMS). This NMS is used by the Minneapolis-based Internet Services Operations group to detect outages in the legacy US West DSL network.Developed a reporting tool with Perl for extracting the number and type of recorded network events from various log files.Modified existing CGI forms to support the NMS's new acknowledgment feature. This acknowledgment feature was introduced to allow operations personnel to respond to an alarm device by suspending email and pager notifications for the duration of troubleshooting.Collaborated with the Wireless Services group, implementing an SNMP Trap mechanism to allow monitoring of their servers from the NMS.Developed a web-accessible reporting system for DSL order completion metrics. The metrics are recorded in the provisioning system's log files as a combination of CORBA headers and XML text. The reporting system consists of a Python script that reads the logs from an external file, processes them (using the pyxie XML library), and writes the results to an external file in CSV format. The content of the output file is then put into MySQL databases for retrieval.

Implemented and supported web-based user interfaces, allowing for the tracking and modification of data used by the various engineering departments. Replaced the existing Access-derived user interface for assigning and tracking fiber-optic cross connects (FOX) with HTML forms. Coded sever-side scripts using Microsoft's Active Server Page technology to handle form input, applying the appropriate business logic and communicating with the backend SQL-Server database.Simplified schemas of legacy Access FOX database, and supervised the migration of data to an SQL-Server. Completed the data migration and rolled out a new FOX application one month ahead of the scheduled completion.Implemented changes and additions to the FOX application in response to feedback from end users.Designed a new database for storing Inter-Facility cross connect (IFX) assignments at the request of the Implementation Engineering department. Managed company resources, including personnel, equipment, and budget, and resolved logistical issues on several expansion projects for the nationwide SONET network. Completed all assigned projects within budget constraints.Finished the installation of the DSC CS1L Digital Cross Connect system two months ahead of schedule.Developed an installation specification for Ciena 1600 DWDM; this was used as a model for future deployment of Ciena systems on the SONET network.
