I have 23 years experience as a Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant (Australia) and Diabetes Specialist Nurse Band 7 (UK) in the field of diabetes self management education and support. Health coach. Employment has been primarily in hospital & community health care settings, but also online: living in France working with people living with diabetes in Australia, providing diabetes self management education online via telephone, Facebook groups, email, FaceTime, Skype, Twitter. Skills include: Health coaching; consulting with hospital medical and nursing staff, and GP's; provision of individual and group education programs for people living with pre-diabetes, type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes; insulin pump therapy and assessment of Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Flash Glucose measuring; insulin and oral diabetes medication dose adjustment. I work in collaboration with Endocrinologists, General Practitioners, physicians, Dietitian's, psychologists, exercise physiologists, Podiatrists and other related health care professionals. One of my my goals is to enhance the management of diabetes by all health care professionals, and to maximise the health and quality of life of people living with diabetes.One of the many highlights of my career was representing my organisation - Diabetes Counselling Online - at the Diabetes Attitudes Wishes and Needs (DAWN) Meeting in the Netherlands in 2014. I have been successful in winning numerous grants for projects, including a New South Wales Department of Health Grant for men and boys where I designed and implemented an innovative and unique ‘Men and Diabetes’ group education and support program.I was the first to implement in clinical practice the Nottingham Assessment of Functional Footcare. My passion is an empowerment approach: client centred diabetes self management education.
