Directing outreach services and projects performed by our world class faculty and students, to provide research and consulting expertise to the recreation, sport and tourism industries. By applying the innovative research done by the University of Illinois, Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism faculty we can effect the changes and improvements needed to ensure a healthier, happier communities.

The Director of Rugby Development oversees the Rugby Development Department and is charged with supporting the implementation of the American Rugby Model. An integrated, strategic framework meant to assist in the development and growth of Rugby in the US.The objectives of the Director of Rugby Development include:• Identify the Critical Success Factors of both the Game Development Divisions (Youth/High School/College/Clubs/Coaches/Referees) and the Performance Services Groups (Course Development, Clinic Delivery, Programs Implementation, Membership Services)• Work with the Game Development Division Directors to identify key department projects and programs• Develop project and program budgets based on the Rugby Development Operations Matrix to be allocated to the Game Development Divisions and the Performance Services Groups.• Ensure that financial and staff resources are being effectively utilized and measured to meet the Rugby Development Department objectives.• Work with the Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and President of Rugby Operations to ensure that the goals, projects, programs and results of the Rugby Development Department are in-line with the overall USA Rugby strategy • Represent USA Rugby in relationships with external rugby and sport education and development partners involved in the development of rugby with external rugby and sport education and development partners involved in the development of rugby with the US and abroad.• Monitor the compliance of USA Rugby member organizations to USA Rugby development policies and requirements, Work with the Youth and High School Committee, College Management Committee and the Club Competitions Committee to promote and enforce membership and eligibility policies.

• Created the American Rugby Model, based on LTAD principles to provide framework for development of Operational Plans, new organizational structure and budget• Development of strategic plan for Coach Development Department• Coordinated development of new curriculum, course structure and delivery system for new accreditation program with national team coaches and high performance staff• Developed new membership system to ensure all coaches are trained in sexual molestation prevention, ethics and sportsmanship, first aid, bullying and harassment prevention, concussion management, and safe rugby techniques and laws• Increased the number of coaches taking Level 200 certification training from 362 in 2012 to over 1400 in 2013.• Engaged staff from all departments to support new direction and vision for sport and coaching development• Presented new Coaching Development Program to USA Congress and received unanimous approval• Working with International Rugby Board and Rugby Canada to improve coaching education and professional development in the US, Canada, and Caribbean• Presented at USA Rugby Foundation fundraisers to promote support of USA Rugby’s new educational initiatives

• Responsible for the budget planning and financial monitoring of USSA Coaches Education Program.• Responsible for the preparation and presentation of the USSA Coaches Education Program annual strategic and educational marketing plans.• Restructured the USSA Coaches Education and Certification structure and processes to improve the scope and comprehensiveness of a coaches’ professional development.• Increased the revenue of the USSA Coaches Education Program by 100% in three years, without increasing expenses. • Initiated the development of 18 CD-ROMs/DVDs as a key component in coaching clinics, and as stand-alone educational resources to generate revenue for the program (development team has received 5 National Awards for excellence in CD/DVD design.)• Coordinated the on-line, in print, and grassroots marketing of the new series of sport specific, sport science and sport leadership CDs and DVDs.• Developed strategic partnerships with sports and educational organizations to promote the sale and use of USSA educational resources (including: USOC, PSIA, NASTAR, SIRC, NBS, SIA, CSCF, American Heart Association, AAHPERD, NASPE, USA Swimming (and 9 other NGB’s), George Washington University.• Coordinated the development of a new on-line Coaches Resource Center.• Coordinated the integration strategy for the US Ski Team Shop and USSA Education Shop, with the USSA Marketing and Communications Department.• Member of the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education Task Force on revision of the NCACE review process based on the second edition of the National Standards for Sport Coaches (2006).• Presented at athletic and coaching conferences, sportsmanship summits, including USOC Coaching Summits, AAHPERD, and USA Coaching Coalition National Coaching Conferences.• Host and organizer of the 2008 National Coaching Educator’s Conference, Park City, UT, June 2008 (in conjunction with the USOC.)

• Responsible for the budget planning and monitoring of ASEP’s programs (over $3M in annual revenue.)• Increased usage of the program an average of 15% annually.• Made numerous presentations at athletic administrators and coaching conferences, and sportsmanship summits.• Responsible for the coordination and preparation of ASEP’s annual strategic marketing plans.• Prepared the professional development programs and implementation plans for 20 state high school associations.• Negotiated marketing partnership program agreements with several non-profit member organizations.• Negotiated ASEP’s first partnership program agreement with the Gatorade Company.• Taught over 600 course instructors in Coaching Principles, Sport First Aid, Citizenship through Sports, and Drugs and Sports courses, at over 50 seminars.• Wrote and published an annual report on high school coaching requirements and education, which have been cited in USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Athletic Business magazine, Washington Post, NASPE News, and numerous regional newspapers.
