David Morris practices in the areas of corporate and securities law and corporate finance. He concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, fund formation, securities, trading and commodities law, banking and finance, emerging growth companies, and general corporate matters. He has significant expertise in the investment management, proprietary trading and commodities law areas, including the representation of hedge funds and other private investment vehicles, broker-dealers, registered investment advisers, commodity pool operators, commodity trading advisors, and other investment management and trading industry participants. He also serves as outside general counsel to start-up and emerging growth companies in a wide variety of industries. David received a B.S. in Finance with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studied at the London School of Economics, and earned a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where he was an associate editor of the law review. Prior to entering private practice, he worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. He has been recognized by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Illinois in Mergers & Acquisitions Law, Securities & Venture Finance Law, and Small, Closely & Privately Held Business Law. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. He is also a member of the Association for Corporate Growth, the Economic Club of Chicago, and the Committee of Hearts of Hedge Funds Care.Prior to joining Fox, Swibel, Levin & Carroll, David was general counsel and managing director of a private equity, investment banking and proprietary trading firm, where he was responsible for structuring, negotiating and documenting a broad range of transactions.
