Colleagues describe him as "Dave was a transformational force in the UK sugar industry. His scientific rigour and thorough approach was often upheld as an example to many. Of his many achievements, I was particularly inspired by his tenacity in converting a costly effluent treatment plant at York Sugar Factory into a revenue generating part of the sugar factory.
