About David Olberding

I am CEO of Olberding Brand Family (founded as Phototype) – We started in 1919, and are a 4th generation family-owned business. We’re a strategic, creative, and production powerhouse that provides fully integrated graphic solutions to the consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, printing and converting industries. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Olberding Brand Family maintains numerous client dedicated service centers in the U.S. and operates a number of world-class production facilities, both domestically and internationally. I began working part-time for Olberding Brand Family while I was still in high school, and continued on through my college years. Those early years were certainly humbling – sweeping floors, making deliveries and proofing. I began college at Ohio State University and later transferred to Rochester Institute of Technology where I earned my B.A. in Photography, with a minor in Printing in 1989. After graduation, I joined Olberding Brand Family full-time and led the move of the company photo lab (PhotoArt) toward the main office – I quickly added a photo studio and began shooting as well. In 1993, I moved to Columbus, Ohio, to open Phototype’s second manufacturing operation, which I continue to lead today. With a strong desire to deepen my business acumen, I later went to Ohio University where I earned my M.B.A. in 1998. My responsibilities now include overseeing all company financial and technology aspects, as well as traveling around the globe to visit clients and their international manufacturing and service facilities. I simply love our industry and, over the years, I’ve aspired to become one of its leaders. In 2008, I was appointed to the Board at Printing Industries of America (PIA), the world’s largest graphic arts trade association. In November 2014, I was sworn in as PIA’s Chairman, charged with driving further advancement of the graphics communications industry worldwide.
