I became passionate about human trafficking in 2007, and felt compelled to get involved in raising awareness at a time when few people were addressing this issue. I started this organization with another social entrepreneur, and we worked in the local Nashville community to bring education and practical solutions to end modern slavery. Our organization organized teams of activists who collaborated to bring businesses, artists, politicians and social activists to do compelling, large scale events and campaigns. Our focus was on the demand side of human trafficking, and a community or individual's practical role in ending that. By focusing on the demand side, we were able to start an important conversation that has not stopped. I still have a passion for this issue. It is one of the most cruel and de-humanizing realities in our world today. My focus is about how we can address the demand of both sex and labor trafficking. If we end the demand, we can free millions of innocent people.
