Since Studio Opolis is a small design firm, I was able to use my talents diversely. A typical work day could have included many different tasks, such as training interns, polishing up magazine layouts, helping local retail outlets come up with advertising plans, or designing websites for other clients. One of the major projects I worked on at Studio Opolis was a set of weekly auto resale publications. The tight turnaround for these required me to not only use a database-driven design process, but also to help design a custom iPhone application and PDF data entry forms. The use of the app and PDF forms saved time on data entry, as well as proofing content, saving hundreds of man hours a month.

Computer Source was more than the free monthly publication many local computer enthusiasts came to love. The parent company, Microstandard, owned many local retail computer stores with a need for not just advertising, but also fiers, posters, web design, and many other sundry tools to drive customers to both its brick-and-mortar locations and online.Computer Source taught me the skills necessary to work closely with multiple clients and tight deadlines. It also taught me that white space is a very good thing, and yes, you can have too many star bursts.

While employed at Solworks, I was lucky enough to not only work on the 3D assets for a few games, but to be heavily involved in the UI/HUD design for a World War II themed MMO. Designed a system that displays all the important information in an unintrusive way was a complicated task that I enjoyed. Being able to create and blow up vehicles, buildings, furniture, and more on a daily basis was a fun learning experience, but working at Solworks taught me much more, including the importance of meshing creativity with deadlines.
