The technology is called Bone Shock Absorption (BSA) and has been validated in three human clinical studies. The first medical application for BSA being pursued by OsteoDynamics is to use BSA to more accurately identify patients that could benefit from currently available and effective therapies for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones resulting in nearly 2 million fragility bone fractures each year in the US. Osteoporosis related fractures cause suffering, disability and $20 billion/yr in direct healthcare costs. Currently used diagnostic tests for osteoporosis are insufficient to accurately identify the majority of those patients at high risk for osteoporosis related fractures, resulting in these patients being denied access to therapies that could prevent them from fracturing. OsteoDynamics’ BSA technology is the remedy for this tragic situation. A BSA based test is quick, painless and noninvasive. If fully implemented, the BSA test provides a highly cost effective means to significantly reduce the number of fragility fractures and their associated healthcare costs.
