I am a Senior Principal Scientist in the Novartis Oncology Target Biology and Discovery (TBaD) Group at Novartis in Cambridge, MA. After graduating from Brown University with a degree in Psychopharmacology, I traveled west to Genentech to begin my professional career in large-scale biologics manufacturing and process validation. As the second employee of the human genetics start-up, Mercator Genetics, I then helped build and ultimately manage the sequencing and bioinformatics groups behind the positional cloning of the human Hereditary Hemochromatosis gene, HFE. My next venture was at the model organism start-up, Exelixis, where I helped industrialize positional cloning in C. elegans and Drosophila for novel target discovery. I returned to Cambridge to pursue target discovery and validation at Novartis, building a state-of-the-art Next Generation Sequencing facility, including pre and post-PCR rooms, large-scale automation, and computational software and hardware, for the Oncology Translational Research group. Recently, my lab has partnered with Massachusetts General Hospital to apply single cell technologies to deconvolute the highly desmoplastic tumor microenvironment of pancreatic cancer for novel insights into this deadly disease.
