My physics education and interest in philosophy & metaphysics have led me to a core set of beliefs. One of the fundamental concepts in physics is the concept of conservation. Conservation of mass/energy, conservation of charge & so on. Simply put, the Universe does not waste anything. Everything is ultimately used & re-used infinitely. The only question is how efficiently. I derive from that observation one of my core values which is to reduce waste & improve the efficiency in a system. This would include human capital as well as other forms of capital. I often fall short in following this vision but what would be the point of a finite goal easily achieved?My job in ATC allows me to practice this desire for efficiency daily.My leadership philosophy (adapted from Lao Tzu)With the best leader, the peopleare hardly aware that he exists.Next best is a leader who is loved.Next, one who is feared.The worst is one who is despised.If you don't trust the people,you make them untrustworthy.The best leader uses words sparingly.When his work is done,the people say, "Amazing:we did it, all by ourselves!"Specialties: I acquired a teaching certification for high school math & physics. I have a very broad background in philosophy and interest in world cultures and history. I am adept at maintaining a strategic view while managing every day details. I took a Scrum course & while not CSM due to logistical issues, I appreciate the Teal organizational values which are inherent in any healthy ATC environment.My duties as an air traffic controller and front line manager with the FAA require expertise in failure analysis - to be able to quickly determine potential points of failure and develop and implement a plan of action to prevent failures in a highly complex & dynamic environment. As a front line manager I have been responsible for managing and supporting a work force which consists of assertive and independent individuals who are required to function as indicated above. I am also obligated to manage a complex regulatory environment to ensure the safety of the National Airspace System.
