Doctoral Research EngineerHadley Group Oct 2016 - Mar 2020Based at the University of Sussex and working in partnership with The Hadley Group, I undertook a PhD studentship working on the UltraSTEEL cold roll forming process.• Produced novel tooling designs for the cold roll forming dimpling of steel, increasing favourable plastic strains over ~90% of the steel sheet• Developed a novel measure of yield strength that can be applied to any yield type and can accurately characterise the behaviour of macroscopic structures. This was shown to be more representative of the behaviour of dimpled steel than current standards• Reviewed / studied international standards regarding the measurement of the mechanical properties of metallic materials: • BS EN 10002-1:2001 • ASTM E8/E8M-16a• Developed an expression enabling control of product yield strength (R^2 = 0.64) based on statistical modelling and supported by metallurgical principles and mechanical testing• Applied nonlinear FE methods to develop deeper understanding of stress and strain mechanisms and further industry goalsCAD | CAE | FEA | SolidWorks | ANSYS | Engineering Analysis | Computational Modelling | Materials Testing | Microstructure Analysis | Statistical Analysis | Process Optimisation -
