Research primarily focused on the fabrication and method development of bonding procedures for all glass microdialysis-microchip electrophoresis (MD-MCE) systems and integrating metal electrodes into the microfluidic microchips using a DC magnetron sputtering source. With this, I am now focusing on developing a miniaturized microdialysis-microchip electrophoresis (MD-ME) system designed for the continuous in-vivo monitoring of biogenic amines and reactive oxygen species. The system is being optimized for the continuous on-line analysis of microdialysis samples obtained using submicroliter flow rates to increase analyte recovery and temporal resolution. The ultimate goal is to perform quantitative microdialysis on-animal with minimal time delay between the biological event and the detection of the event in order to correlate learning and behavior.
