My lab's goal is to understand how the eukaryotic genome is packaged with histones into chromatin and how chromatin is propagated, expressed, and those transcripts spliced into mature gene transcripts.To improve our basic understanding of biology, human disease, and also to develop new therapeutic approaches, we aim to understand how these processes work and how they are regulated by the cell. Our studies are critically important for understanding diseases such as lung cancer and leukemia, and have wide-ranging implications for human development and neuroscience. We also develop assays and perform drug discovery for a range of targets.My research program is funded by multiple federal research grants as well as private foundations and sponsored research awards.In addition to running my research lab and teaching, I consult for companies and investors focused on related topics.Key interests: PRMTs and arginine methylation; histones; chromatin; transcription; histone chaperones; post-translational glutamylation; glutamyltransferases and deglutamylases; enzymology; methyltransferases; lung cancer and leukemia;
