Following my undergraduate work at the University of Richmond’s School of Business Administration in 1978, I went to La Salle College and earned a Masters of Business Administration in 1982. Although born and raised in the Philadelphia area, I headed south after receiving my MBA and began working in the Low Country in marketing and real estate sales and development, which has been the focus of my entire career.A significant part of my career was the twelve years spent as Director of Marketing and Sales for the Sea Pines Company where I had responsibilities in both the resort divisions and the real estate sales side of the operation. I managed an in-house operations staff responsible for the production and distribution of real estate and marketing materials, handled the company public relations and interfaced with a sales force that at times exceeded 100 agents. All during this time, I managed several million-dollar budgets and worked with multiple boards for both the community and the resort. For over a decade Sea Pines was the largest and most successful real estate company on Hilton Head.An interesting element of my background, however, is that both before and after my time at Sea Pines, I also ran advertising/consulting agencies so I know not only the sales side of real estate and resort development, but also the production, pricing and artistic elements of working with advertising agencies. This ability to understand agency dynamics and the consumer needs have been extremely helpful in determining what is effectively outsourced and was is cost effectively handled in-house for sales. Approximately four years ago, I did accept an offer to be the first Dataw Island Director of Marketing and believe the nature of what I did for Dataw Island and the success seen in improvements in their sales operation and sales results are a testimony to my work.
