Senior Consultant Crisis and Security Consulting. Design and deliver standard and advanced pre-risk workshops to assist clients manage and resolve ‘extortive crime’ incidents, primarily kidnap and piracy, but including product extortion and contamination, other types of threat extortion and blackmail, detention and international problem solving. Clients include large, international corporate companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Design and facilitate detailed training and simulation exercises for clients’ corporate and local crisis management teams.Review and write bespoke kidnap response and crisis management plans Extensive experience over 5 years working full time with corporate and private clients on the active management of such incidents in numerous locations worldwide, not least: Nigeria, Côte D’Ivoire; Colombia, Afghanistan, Kenya, Somalia, Sierra Leone, India, Pakistan, Sweden and Venezuela.Prior to joining Control Risks, served for 33 years in the British Army, attaining the rank of Colonel. Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1977, transferred to the Royal Military Police in 1985 and spent a considerable time deployed operationally in Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan and Kosovo. Also worked extensively at senior levels in the training field and the Ministry of Defence.

Crisis Response and security consulting worldwide

Provision of all estate and infrastructure services to a military and civilian population in excess of 15,000 people in five dispersed locations in northern Germany; direct responsibility for a £35M cash and resource budget.

Directed the collection, co-ordination, exchange and fusion of all-source high-value intelligence from both UN and Kosovan police and intelligence assets in order to develop multi-agency intelligence-driven operations against high-value criminal targets. Also appointed as Commander British Forces Kosovo

Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff and principal planner and enabler for the Initial Training Group, responsible for all elements of recruiting, selecting and training in excess of 10,000 recruits to the British Army per annum. Directed, fused and enabled operations and plans and co-ordinated the work of the staff, whilst developing and implementing Army training policy within an annual operating budget of £114M.

Kabul, Afghanistan

Provision of military advice to the NATO Secretary General's Senior Civilian Representative to Afghanistan. Management of private office staff including the Minister's Close Protection Team. Responsible for the running of the private office, drafting of weekly reports to the NATO SG, drafting speeches and routine correspondence. Liaison with Commander and key staff of the NATO International Security & Assistance Force.

Chief of Military Police force at NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium, responsible for force protection, physical and document security; access control. Provision of an international investigation service; proponent for the Headquarters’ Anti-Terrorist training plan. Principal military police adviser to the Supreme Allied Commander and custodian of NATO military police doctrine, policies and procedures.

Defence Training Review (Army) team member (1999-2000), subsequently Team Leader of a Transition Team responsible for planning and delivering a rationalized, tri-Service, military police training system, to include a residential establishment for the Defence Police and armed and unarmed guard services.
