David C. Helms, CIC, CPCU is a Senior Training Specialist with a national insurance carrier responsible for commercial lines education & training. David has a background in the areas of claims - specializing in large property fire losses, marketing, sales and management. He supports and advocates for Independent Agents and the value proposition they bring to today's complex insurance marketplace. David entered the insurance industry after four years of public service as a firefighter / paramedic with the City of Titusville, Florida. He has worked with hundreds of Independent Agents focused on efforts to grow revenue through consultative selling, social styles recognition, workflow management, cross selling and client persistency strategies. He has advised agencies on perpetuation planning, staff professional development, errors and omissions risk control and carrier relationship management. Placing an emphasis on deep insurance product knowledge, David advocates for a Risk Management approach focused on the identification and analysis of loss exposures along with appropriate loss control measures and risk financing options including both insurance and risk retention solutions.He is currently a faculty member and serves on the Advisory Council of the Risk & Insurance Education Alliance and has been a featured presenter at Mississippi State University and the University of North Texas relating to areas of Risk Management and Insurance.
