Responsible for the administration of hundreds of Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on more than 30 Microsoft Windows servers including highly available Active / Passive clusters. The consolidation project included some VMWARE virtual installations.In partnership with Network and Server Admin staff, consult on and implement appropriate hardware and software solutions to service particular database requirements, usually within a strict budget. These include specifying server and storage hardware and operating systems.Manage health of SQL Servers including backups, restores and monitoring. Purchase or create tools for these purposes.Manage access to data assets according to business needs following a “least privileges” methodology.Help in-house developers improve performance of their applications.Handle highest level of support escalation calls about SQL Server, hardware, and storage issues.Review and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, views, triggers.Implement Analysis Services & Reporting Services, SQL Server Clustering, Log Shipping and Database Mirroring.Developed “GetFeeds” code and methodology for importing data flat files automatically into databases which has been adopted company wide for many different purposes. This is easily scheduled for automatic operation via the SQL Server Agent and ensures no file is imported twice and handles compressed archiving of the feed files. The process can also reliably fetch or deliver data files via secure FTP and pscp.Create and schedule for automatic email delivery reports generated by SQL Reporting Services, including reports for the Sales, IT, Engineering, Marketing and Finance departments.
