Program Director, Gme Curriculum Project To Increase Patient Safety
Washington, Dc
I collaborate with MD/PhD investigators and co-PIs on an international initiative to "Enhance GME Leadership Efforts to Improve Patient Safety" by measuring to what extent deliberate Mentoring of Residents In-transition (MRI) mitigates risk, improves readiness levels, and increases patient safety during graduate medical education (GME) in military, civilian and Veteran's hospital transitions in situated learning. The study identifies best practices that enhance entrustment in team protocols and investigates systemic dysfunction when HR staff ignore resident wellness. The MRI project informs and advocates for accredited deliberate mentored intervention of medical interns (PGY-1 residents) to mitigate risk in curricular gaps. Our Qual/quant Likert scale surveys are able to provide evidence based findings for the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and thereby able to prevent more than 100,000 patient deaths per year in 150 countries. Research content was endorsed by ASME and invited for the WFME Summit 2012. I have presented my PhD research findings to medical education faculty at universities in Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Bosnia, China, and Kazakhstan. In the USA, I have communicated this initiative to the AMA, ACGME, AHA, AAMC, AMEE, ICRE, NPSF, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Harvard, GWU, MedStar, INOVA, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, AHRQ, USUHS, WRNMMC, HHS, DHA, and at The Patient Safety Foundation conference. In 2016, my investigations informed client’s claims filed in Alexandria Court, Fairfax Circuit Court, U.S. Federal District Court, and FINRA arbitrations involving multiple law firms and U.S. Trustees. As a Power of Attorney for clients I advised and wrote Trust documents for court hearings and IRS meetings. I advised international Board of Directors, wrote grant and 501(C3) applications, translated French contracts, edited books, and investments in mobile medical clinics and shelters in remote areas of Africa.
